CityMD – Urgent Care

HC_Card

Effective May 1, 2023, eligible members will be able to use over 150 CityMD urgent care locations throughout New York and New Jersey at no cost upon presentation of their-new Health Center Insurance Card. Cards are in the process of being mailed to your address on file. If you do not receive your Health Center card by 5/1/23, please contact us at 212-586-6400.

Please note that the new Health Center Insurance Card you will be receiving is for CityMD urgent care centers as well as Health Center referred providers. It does not replace your Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Card.

Please remember, chronic care and wellness care will remain with your Health Center Primary Care Provider.

CityMD urgent care centers are open during the day and evening, as well as weekends and on many holidays. These offices are equipped to handle medical needs that require immediate attention, but that are not life threatening nor classified as emergencies. If you have a true medical emergency, you should still go to a hospital Emergency Room.

To locate authorized CityMD urgent cares, log-on to www.citymd.com, key in your zip code to find the CityMD closest to you. In the case that you are uncertain on whether your condition is suitable for urgent care services, you can call our Health Centers (both during and after hours) for more information at 718-606-FUND (3863).

If you utilize CityMD outside of our normal hours, please keep in mind that for any prescription you may require:

  • If it is late in the day on a Friday, depending on where the prescription is sent, you may not be able to get it until Monday.
  • Therefore, we suggest asking the doctor to send 2 prescriptions, one (1) for a short supply to cover the days we are closed and the other to our pharmacy to complete the therapy.
  • If a prescription is sent to your local pharmacy, you will be responsible for the total cost of the medication. Visit GoodRx to compare prices.

Midtown and Queens Pharmacies are open on Saturday (9am to 5pm).
All pharmacy locations are closed on Sundays.

This benefit begins on May 1, 2023. Please use your Health Center Insurance Card at City MD locations to receive services at no cost.

Primary care serves as the first point of contact for patients seeking healthcare services. It plays a critical role in promoting health, preventing illness, and managing chronic conditions, making it an indispensable component of healthcare systems worldwide. CityMD urgent care should not replace your ongoing chronic care and wellness visits with your Primary Care physician. Primary care providers, including family physicians, internists, and pediatricians, develop long-term relationships with patients, providing comprehensive and continuous care throughout their lifespan. They are equipped to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of health conditions, and serve as advocates for their patients' health and well-being. Primary care is vital in promoting early detection and intervention of health problems, coordinating and integrating care across different healthcare settings, and promoting patient education and shared decision-making. It is a crucial foundation for a robust and effective healthcare system, emphasizing the importance of primary care in ensuring quality, accessible, and patient-centered healthcare for all individuals.
